Janne Nisonen is a conductor whose musical career began as a violinist and concertmaster. He has had a long-standing role with the Tapiola Sinfonietta as concertmaster and artistic planner, playing a central part in shaping the orchestra’s distinctive sound and programming profile.

With maternal family roots in Kaustinen, his early musical environment included exposure to Finnish folk music, which has subtly informed his artistic voice. As a conductor, Janne has worked with several major orchestras, including the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, and Tapiola Sinfonietta.

He is particularly recognized for his stylistically informed interpretations of Classical and early Romantic repertoire, as well as for his inventive and wide-ranging programming, where historical and contemporary music often enter into dialogue.

Janne is currently engaged in a major recording project: the complete symphonies of Ferdinand Ries, to be released on the Ondine label.
